When was the battle of Badr?

Battle of Badr story

The Badr War was a huge turning point for Muslims, it happened in the month of Ramadan, two years after the migration to Madinah. When the prophet Muhammad heard about the wealthy caravan that was led by Abu Sufyan he decided to raid it instead of the caravan that the Quraish seized from the Muslims during their migration to Madinah.

Therefore, Quraish gathered their forces and the battle of Badr took place in the city of Badr. The Muslim army consisted of only 314 soldiers including the prophet, and the Quraish army consisted of nearly 1000 soldiers. Before the battle began the prophet gathered the Army and prayed.

Furthermore, at the beginning of battle 3, the Muslim army fought three of the Quraysh Army. The three Msulims are Hazrat Hamza (RA), Hazrat Ali (RA), and Hazrat Ubaidah bin Harith (RA). The three from the Quraysh army are Waleed bin Utbah, Shayba bin Rabia and Utbah bin Rabia. The battle ended with the victory of the Muslims, which lit the fire and hate in the Quraysh’s hearts. That is when the real battle started.

When both armies charged against each other the Muslims exclaimed, “Ahad! Ahad”. The prophet prayed to Allah and asked him for help. Allah answered his call and sent an army of angels to help the Muslims. Allah said in the holy Quran:

إِذْ تَسْتَغِيثُونَ رَبَّكُمْ فَٱسْتَجَابَ لَكُمْ أَنِّى مُمِدُّكُم بِأَلْفٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْمَلَـٰٓئِكَةِ مُرْدِفِينَ ٩

“[Remember] when you asked the help of your Lord, and He answered you, “Indeed, I will reinforce you with a thousand from the angels, following one another.”

Before the battle of Badr, the prophet held a handful of dust, blew it at the army of Quraysh and prayed for the defeat of the disbelievers. That can be seen in the following verse:

“It was not you ˹believers˺ who killed them, but it was Allah Who did so. Nor was it you ˹O Prophet˺ who threw ˹a handful of sand at the disbelievers˺, but it was Allah Who did so, rendering the believers a great favor. Surely Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing.”

The battle then ended with the victory of the Muslims Army. In this jihad in Islam, there were 14 Muslims martyred, and 70 soldiers died from the Quraysh army. And that is the battle of Badr summary.
