Dua and Zikir Durood Ibrahim

Salat al-Ibrahimiya (Arabic: صلاة الابراهيمية; The Prayer of Ibrahim), commonly known as Durood Ibrahim in South Asia is a prayer upon the Prophet ﷺ that was revealed by the Prophet ﷺ himself. It has been related in various hadith books such as Bukhari and Muslim where it is mentioned that it is the best and most complete form of salutation upon the Prophet ﷺ. It is usually recited in salah after reciting tashahhud whilst in the sitting position. There are a number of different wordings of the prayer; we have related three of the most common ones.

Arabic, Transliteration and Translation

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ ❁ اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad(in), kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm(a), innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd. Allāhumma bārik ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad(in), kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm(a), innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd.

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad just as You have sent prayers upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim, verily You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad just as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, verily You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ وَبَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ ❁ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad(in), kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm(a), wa bārik ʿalā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā āli Muḥammad(in), kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm(a) fi l-ʿālamīn(a), innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd.

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad just You as have sent prayers upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim, and bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad just as You have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim in all the worlds, verily You are the Praiseworthy the Glorious.

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَرَسُولِكَ النَّبِّيِّ الأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ ❁ كَمَا صَلَّيتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ❁ وَبَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِّيِّ الأُمِّيِّ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَأَزْوَاجِهِ وَذُرِّيَّتِهِ ❁ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فِي الْعَالَمِينَ ❁ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Muḥammadin ʿabdika wa rasūlika n-nabīyyi l-ummīyyi wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin wa azwājihi wa dhurrīyatih(i), kamā ṣallayta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīm(a), wa bārik ʿalā Muḥammadi n-nabīyyi l-ummīyyi wa ʿalā āli Muḥammadin wa azwājihi wa dhurrīyatih(i), kamā bārakta ʿalā Ibrāhīma wa ʿalā āli Ibrāhīma fi l-ʿālamīn(a), innaka Ḥamīdun Majīd.

O Allah, send prayers upon Muhammad, Your servant and Messenger, the unlettered Prophet, and send prayers upon the family of Muhammad and his wives and progeny, just as You have sent prayers upon Ibrahim and upon the family of Ibrahim; and bless Muhammad the unlettered Prophet and the family of Muhammad and his wives and progeny, just as you have blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim in all the worlds, verily You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious.​

What is Durood e Ibrahimi:

A Durood is a kind of prayer and blessing that we sent to our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H), In the Quran, Allah says that he and his angels sent the durood to his Prophet (P.B.U.H) and orders us to recite/sent Durood to our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). Durood Ibrahim is one of the most recited durood, as it is also recited in the Prayers after the Attahiyat. In this beautiful Durood, we Pray to Allah to send Peace and Blessings upon Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and his Family.

Virtues of Darood Ibrahimi:

“Indeed on the Day of Judgement, The one who reads more Durood upon me will be more closer to me”(Tirmidhi)

“Whoever recites Durood upon me once, Allah grants him ten blessings, Forgive his ten sins, And raises his levels” (Nisaai-Sharif)

اللّٰہُمَ صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّ عَلٰٓی اٰلِ مُحَّمَدٍکَمَا صَلَّیْتَ عَلٰٓی اِبْرٰھِیْمَ وَعَلٰٓی اٰلِ اِبْرٰہِیْمَ اِنَّکَ حَمِیْدٌ مَجِیْدٌ اللّٰہُمَ بَارِکْ عَلٰی مُحَمَّد ٍوَّ عَلٰٓی اٰلِ مُحَّمَدٍکَمَابَارَکْتَ عَلٰٓی اِبْرٰھِیْمَ وَعَلٰٓی اٰلِ اِبْرٰہِیْمَ اِنَّکَ حَمِیْدٌ مَجِیْدٌ

Allahumma Salle ‘Alaa Muhammadinw Wa’Alaa Aali Muhammadin Kamaa Sallaeta ‘Alaa Ibraaheema Wa’Alaa Aaali Ibraaheema Innaka Hameedum Majeed. Allahumma Baarik ‘Alaa Muhammadinw Wa’Alaa Aali Muhammadin Kamaa Baarakta ‘Alaa Ibraaheema Wa’Alaa Aaali Ibraaheema Innaka Hameedum Majeed

Durood E Ibrahim In English:

“O Allah send peace on Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and to the family of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) as you sent peace on Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) and the family of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) Indeed, you are praiseworthy and glorious. O Allah, bless the Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) and the family of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) as you blessed Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) and the family of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) Indeed, you are praiseworthy and glorious.”​

The Arabic text of Durood Ibrahim is:

اللّهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

The English translation is:

"O Allah, send Your peace and blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You sent peace and blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. O Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as You blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious."
